Dubaian Railways (Metro & Tram)

Postby BalkanExpress » Thu Jan 01, 2015 12:10 am

Hi to all membes;

Just a stop in party to say all you Happy New Year...here in Dubai it is but not in Athens, I think

Some pictures of the Dubai's Metro for all you.

The Dubai Metro is a driverless, fully automated metro rail network in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. Two are operational, with three further lines planned. These first two lines run underground in the city centre and on elevated viaducts elsewhere (elevated railway). All trains and stations are air conditioned with platform edge doors to make this possible.

Continuing with such particularly railway in the emerging economy, let's talk about the tram network.

The Dubai Tram (previously the Al Sufouh Tram) system was designed to be an integral part of the Dubai transport network, linking the Dubai Metro and the Palm Monorail and running along Al Sufouh Road and Jumeirah Beach Road from Mall of the Emirates at one end to the Dubai Marina. After initially being planned for completion in 2009, when the first phase of the Dubai Metro was completed, it was first delayed until 2012 and inagurated in 2014 definetively.

The stock is the Alsthom's Citadis model, with central live rail for electrification.
