To make a long story short, August of 1987 was the hottest month ever recorded for decades. The temperature was raising up to 44 C (in the shade) for more than 8 days.
Older people and people with long term diseases were in direct danger as the air conditioning systems were not that widely used at those days.
It is estimated that almost 1300 persons lost their life! The coffins had soon to be Kept at OSE refrigerators as the hospital mortuarys were full!
The temperatures were that high that even the ISAP (ΗΣΑΠ - electric train Pireas - Kifisia) tracks were distorted!
