Hello christo, :)

Thanks for the photo. This freight-carriage looks like a carriage for little animals. Am I right? The former german-state railways(DR) had such wagons untill the 1960`s.

Best regards

Yes that is right Erwin. It had two floors. Also all the Greek H2 wagons had a brake cabin at one end. Wheelbase length 6.5m.

Hello christo, :)

thanks for the friendly answer. Is the OSE the only company with such carriages? As I know, the Italian state railway has the same carriages. Am I right?

Best regards

Erwin, I think FS had similar wagons but not the same. However, TimCC6558 knows far more than me. I hope he gives you a more definitive answer.

Hello Erwin,

Yes, the Italian railways had livestock wagons, they were a variation of the well-known standard peak roof 4-wheel van and were classified as type G. They are no longer in use since all livestock transport seems to be by road now. There were also similar wagons in France, but much more easily recognised since they were painted yellow with a large animal head (horse or cow) motif on the doors. There were both 4-wheel and bogie versions of these wagons. If you would like photos of any of these, PM me and I'll find some for you. There are HO scale models available of all these wagons, unlike the Greek one. :(

Regards, Tim.

Surely, at least 4 of them still exist.

BUILDERS WAKEFIELD, ENGLAND 1946 - 1947 given to S.E.K. by U.N.R.R.A. at 1947, having the original English narrow width with the characteristic anchor symbol on the car. Unfortunately only very few of them still exist .

These are the two only after-W.W.2 animal carrying cars ...... maybe some day i post about the pre-war ones, which most of them came from other ex-railroads (J.S.C., Π.Δ.Σ., S.M., C.O., Γ.Ε.Σ. e.t.c.) but none of them is still alive, on its original form....
