For me the most appealing part of the hobby is to get the trains out of the boxes and onto something resembling a landscape. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be more than bare plywood.

Given my space constraints, this has meant small branchline layouts in fictional settings, where I can create my own story and try to operate the trains in a somewhat realistic manner. As small as the layout is (approx 183cm x 61cm), I see this as a lifetime project, where I slowly improve the track and scenery over time. I don't have the patience for museum quality, but I am happy to always try to improve - σιγά σιγά!

On the left is a TrainSafe adapter that allows me to connect a TrainSave Vision tube for trains to enter and exit the layout. The left module is the countryside module. On the right is the town module with the station and associated track, along with a small town centre and seaside. No such place exists of course, as I have combined elements of various places that are dear to me - modellers license!

John, you have a treasure hidden in your closet! :D
You have posted photos of your modules before but this is the first time we can have a look at all of it and it looks great!

I most agree with you. Model trains need a scenery and space to move.
Building models gives me a lot of pleasure but I hope to have time soon to start my own layout.
Till then, I always love to have a look at fellows work and getting ideas.

Keep modelling, keep posting and sharing!

A short video of a passenger train led by an Hellas Sprinter running from north to south on my 2m long layout

The TrainSafe tubes from Germany make it possible to run trains on what would otherwise be a static diorama

A night scene from the current version of my portable layout. I've tried to use tall grasses to hide the ugly and unrealistic edges of the Kato Unitrack. The layout is in two sections (each section is roughly 90cm x 60cm) that are stored in a closet and moved out and connected when I want to run trains. What the Kato track lacks in looks it gains in durability and electrical stability that can withstand the constant moving, putting together and pulling apart of the sections.
