I have tried in the years before to build a layout, but I was never very happy.....after many years now and a layout that was about 20% build I decided to scrap, re function the whole room as a layout room (it was also my office at home before and I live alone...now) a do something out of it. The room is 6,30m*5,10m so quite big. What were the requisites that I have found out interest me and all the previous attempts never covered?
-I am interested in running trains....I possible long scenic parts
-Large radius, if possible above 90cm.....I have some locomotives that are not very happy with less
-Single track with scenic from the old Tithorea-Domokos line
-Integrate a harbour, if possible
-Long turnouts (on the mainline Weinert with at least 1350mm diverging radius toward industries but in stations I have 2100mm radius). The bare minimum is 914mm for the coal mine turnouts....
So I bit the bullet over Christmas (I was off work) and planned the layout. I moved my office under the roof and I started! The modules from the old layout were recycled/modified to suit the purpose. Now, a little bit less than three months later I have built 4 of the Modules (I think they are around 15 in total) and currently I finish (hopefully next week) the track bed on the 4th module (the coal mine). I hope next week to lay the first track, wire it up and start running some trains.
I use scratch build Servos for the turnouts, controlled with ESU ServoPilot decoders and the whole layout is hookd up on a Z21 from Roco using a Tablet but also Loconet with FREDIs from Fremo. The whole main line excluding the stations is about 28m with different independent scenic parts.....
