PROJECT NEUSTADT Dimitris Katsikas

Postby jimmy.k » Sun Jul 07, 2013 1:19 am

Hello to all friends!

As an introductory subject in this category, please let me present this supplementary diorama for my Project Neustadt train layout.
It is the "Titlis Bahn" diorama i.e. a layout built in order to accommodate this specific Brawa model.

It is 97% ready. The rest 3% will be done upon final installation.

This "sub-diorama" has running water (again :D ) , sounds (from two speakers) , the mountain base for the Titlis Bahn and several other details including a working photographer, a builder and a small fontain. The stone bridge and the car viaduct are scratch built, the semaphors are operational and the nature is home made.
Finally the single line will only accommodate -intentionally- small two axle railcars (VT 98 and other rolling stock that can cope with the R250 helix!!)

Some of you may know Project Neustadt from other postings in train-related fora. For those who don't I will make a small presentation in the near future.

No more words... ;) Here are the photos :

Hello to all!

Since my last post , several things took place in Neustadt. Most of them was of very little "pure modellism interest" , i.e. signaling,Lighting, and adding all addresses to the RR computing system , but were very important and crucial for the "well being" of the layout..
As I was proceeding towards the port fascilities of the layout , I had to make slight alterations to the total length, number and composition of the bridges and thus I had to provide a different support pillar. This leads us to the following presentation ;) .

For me the cornerstone of all model Greek themes is -and will always be - Gorgopotamos viaduct. A place that I have thoroughly photographed, measured (with the help of Nick Fotis) ,and even almost started the diorama (in terms of woodwork...) but due to several economic depression and crisis reasons , I had to postpone operations...

Having said that , please find attached my "essay" based on the large metal Gorgopotamos pillar ,made of styrene and 100% scratchbuild.
I tried to build it in pure 1:87 scale ,but it was not possible to find appropriate beams to scale. Therefore I had to compromise a) due to the lack of the appropriate materials and b) due to the fact that "mine" supports a double bridge... :|

Here we go :

Dimitris,

In my opinion you should add the word magical in front of NEUSTADT so that it should be known as MAGICAL NEUSTADT. But even that, it will not do it justice. Well done my friend again and thank you for sharing your work with us.

Thank you for your kind words John!

There is a track plan , but is severely altered...A layout is "dynamic" and constantly changes. The initial plan was that an even bigger station (Faller Neustadt) , with tracks, depots , and turntables etc. was going to be placed ,where the bridges are right now. I quickly "abandomed" this plan which was -I think- a correct decision.

Below you can see some photos of the construction with minor wording, closer views of the scenes and a panoramic view of the Mountain part of layout.

This construction was a bit complicated as I had to install the Brawa Titlis bahn , the HOe track Line and incorporate the faller Car system too.

This was a bit tricky due to the hight difference of the base and mountain Stations respectively and I had to alter the central pylon for that reason.
The Car system was also demanding because I wanted the road to be as close to rural roads as it could be.No flat "mirror like" surfaces but tarmac full of cracks and cavities. The uphill winding roads also pushed the faller bus to it's limits.

So here the alterations,

Then I started building the almost verical rocks, doing a lot of testing, and I placed the scratch build bridge support (more than 2000 styrene pieces) in place.

Image Image Image Image

Finally I glued in place two more Kibri brigdes (one still to go...), done a lot of scenery, detailing and made a lot of custom made trees, bushes and nature in general.
