Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. Today I left the safety of the beach hut, drove for a while and went exploring and measuring. Air cons in cars is a great invention and Helen was a darling. More photos and history soon.

Funny you should say that. I first visited the site in 1985. A lot have changed but more when I return. Obviously I do not know how to use Helen's iPad :D

OK it is nice to be back to my base. Time to straighten the photos and begin reporting. So I visited Gerakini in Chalkidiki.

I first found the mining company's website http://www.grecianmagnesite.com/ and photo:

I then found this hotel called Villa Decauville http://www.villadecauville.com/index.ph ... 5-15-53-24 and their photos:

...and then I found this one on the net.

Finally I wrote to the hotelier who was kind enough to point me in all the right directions. So I was not just swimming all day. :D

PS. BarbaPanagos I straightened the photos ;)

The hotelier mentioned that between 14th and 17th August there would be an Arts and Crafts exhibition between 18.00 and 22.00 hours. And that is when the little train would be on display. I with Helen arrived there on the 16th at about 18.30 and started the photo shoot.

Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. The little Ruston loco with the four little wagons on tow. The whole train was placed on a piece of temporary track for display purposes in the middle of the shed on the right, amongst the artifacts of the exhibition.

2014-08-16 18.16.51.jpg

Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. Wagon 1 behind the engine was a flat, loaded with two black barrels and with a prominent handbrake at one end.

2014-08-16 18.16.58.jpg

Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. Wagon 2 was a typical skip, loaded with sacks.

2014-08-16 18.17.04.jpg

Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. Wagon 3 was a flat again, carrying two green barrels this time.

2014-08-16 18.17.16.jpg

Photo Balkanmodels: August 2014. Wagon 4 was another skip. All wagons seem to have had the same chassis and I could find no manufacturers plates or marks. The whole train is heading towards the sea and the pier.
