While we are all on the subject of old wooden vans, here's the Z1 series - I assume that they were made without brake huts as well?

This is one of the most complicated classes of S.E.K. / O.S.E.

There is a lot of interesting info about them but will ''come'' as days pass

Anyway, they are built by Ringhoffer in two different places - factories.

 BUREAU CENTRAL D' EXPORTATION RINGHOFFER - KOPRIVNICE /- NESSELSDORF /- STUDENKA / STAUDING /. ETABLISSEMENTS RINGHOFFER SMICHOV

Built in 1926 (papers also say that some of them were built in 1925 but i haven't find any one (yet)) , type Gglm-v.

Some photos for now ... :D

I will contribute something more.

There were two types of Z1. They were build 1925/26 but were put into active duty in 1926.

1) 860 Zτ 7001-7860. These were I guess with the brakemans house.
2) 140 Z 7861-8000. These were obviously without any type of braking.

Cheers

Later they were renumbered to Z 1 20 73 107 7 400 - 925.

Also some of the 7001 - 7860 were ex-Ηπτ for animals ....

Excellent photos! I missed some of those when I was last there in 2005, I was concentrating on the USATC vans. Have you photographed every wagon in Greece or are there some left for the rest of us? :D

Perhaps we need to start a thread on maintenance vehicles.....

I think we have a topic about maintenance cars ... '' OSE Works and Auxiliary vehicles '' .

Of course i don't have all wagons.... I don't have many around Thessaloniki yet... and some others.

OK, it just seems like you have photos of everything! :D

I went on an organised tour of Greek railways back in 2000 run by an English operator and around Thessaloniki the special trains we had (Fiat A/A) would not stop around the yards for fear of the people living in the old carriages - we were told they all carried guns. An exaggeration maybe, but our guides seemed quite nervous about even slowing down to look at things, how is it now?

I just joined Amnizia only to find no photos or much of anything on there, seems they've had a crash....

Regards, Tim.

The things at Lachanokipi and Nea Magnisia are ....... hmmm... indescribable unshit .

I went there 4 times. 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012 , have photographed around 400something vehicles (and around 3000 photos).... that's what i managed . Honestly talking or writing about these places, even photos and (even if i want to describe you) can not make you understand even the 10% of what you feel and what you see there....

Original numbering:

With Brake cabin
Zτ 7001-7320 (320 wagons) Region A (Athens)
Zτ 7321-7860 (540 wagons) Region Β (Thessaloniki)
Without brake cabin
Z 7861-7910 (50 wagons) Region Α
Z 7911-8000 (90 wagons) Region Β

Last OSE numbering 107 7 400-925 (520 wagons registered as surviving of the original 1000)

Ringhoffer also produced 50 animal Carriers Hτ. But these ran on 6.5m wheelbase while the Z ran on 4.5m.
