SEK Weinert Pwg14

Good Evening

Recently I started building a Pwg14 in HO from Weinert in brass and white metal. A couple of them where in service after WWII and probably were left in Greece from the wermacht.

I know that I got the Ep.III model which has some reinforcments on the sides (these angled irons) and it might not be quite right but I dont care :D I will make a SEK version out of it.

I love the kit and it helps me develop my soldering skills. I am taking my time because I want to solder the model completely and not use glue. I use 145 deg. Solder for brass and 70 deg solder for white metal parts with 9% phosphoric acid as flux for both solders. I have a temperature regulated iron 50W that can do between 150 and 450 degrees. I solder the 145 deg. at 300deg. and the 70 deg at 150. The second one is very easy and 150 deg does not affect the Weinert white metal parts at all.

More to be posted soon as I progress.

Cheers
Andreas

Hello Andreas,
Nice job so far! Looks like an interesting project - here are a couple of photos of the real thing which you may of course already have, I've forgotten where they came from, photographer unknown. I have the Fleischmann and Piko models of this type but of course the Greek version is slightly different from both of them!

Good afternoon to all,

If you are interested, we can make a comparison between the comercial produced models (Fleischmann, Piko, etc.) so we can decide the closest model to that photos you share with us (thanks!)

Perhaps, with little modifications and new decals, we can get a nice model for our collection.

Regards

Hi BalkanExpress, I'd like too to have a model of this nice little wagon but I have none of the commercial models mentioned above or reference.
I guess Andreas and Tim could give us the info needed and we can make an acceptable model out of them.

two photos of Jason Zorzos of the surviving Pwg14s at Thessaloníki, posted at the great facebook group Trains in Greece https://www.facebook.com/groups/374373939321227/
there is a ton of great photos there and the only reason I recently created a facebook account (not with my real name of course) :)

EDIT: I have just found out that the Trains in Greece group is a secret group by now, it wasn't like that when I joined, so I'll have to ask Jason if we can post his photos in here

That's about the only thing that would persuade me to go on Facebook! I will take some pictures of my models and post them, although none of the Greek vehicles seem to have the diagonal body reinforcing irons and the windows are all different, too. It would be so nice if just once we could have an off the shelf model that could be repainted and be correct without having to carve it around!

Regards, Tim.

that's exactly what I meant Tim

I had a look at the Piko and Fleishman models at the net, the Piko one seems to be easier to modify and quite cheaper as I can see.
It seems also like we are not going to avoid some major surgery too but others have done that before, not modeling an OSE wagon but will give us some idea

and here some models in bigger scale and a lot of detail

Those large scale ones are excellent!

I just wasted a significant amount of time creating a Facebook account only to find that the Trains in Greece group apparently doesn't exist - another scam of some sort? I trust Facebook and their like about as far as I could throw a railway locomotive!

Anyway, here are photos of the Piko and Fleischmann models, as you can see there are substantial differences between them - you pays your money and takes your choice! Personally I think the Piko Model is the better one, the Fleischmann is very clunky, like much of their stuff.

:D as you can see, I have asked Jason if we can have his photos uploaded to our forum, I guess the result was more than I could expect! He has joined us and already has updated almost all the topics.

Thanks Jason!

PS. I have to reveal that Jason is another one source of infos for me. All the times I needed to know something he has willingly helped me!
