this is an interesting shot, not only the ΣΓΕ inscription, but the caption too "Greek Soldiers at Svilengrad" (?)

anybody could identify it?

Oh..what a fine shot though it will be difficult to identify the wagon. It belongs to the CFFH but the most interesting thing is that it still carries the original CO running number. G 2997... G was the initial for 2 axle closed good wagons on the CO. So the picture is from WWII.

Andrea, have a look at the link above, the photo is from 1950, and these are supposed to be Greek soldiers at Svilengrad (!?) inspecting the border trains...

I mean, they are definitely Greek soldiers, their uniforms is the British BD (Battle Dress) introduced to our army since the first formations in exile (Middle East) during WWII.
Even it it's not from 1950, it's with no doubt shot after liberation.
I just wonder if it is possible the Bulgarians would have accepted Greek troops at their border station...

According to some 1940-something paper-search, it is probably one of the 130 freight cars, ex- Γ.Ε.Σ. G(F) 2978-3107, 40 of which, later were renumbered to ΣΕΚ Ζτ 3883-3922...

As soon as we have not any other info (for example tare, capacity, length, etc) from that one in the photo, we can not compare much ....

With a maintenance car's number as 30 73 100 7 183-1, ex- Σ 19080 (older maintenance car number, found through papersearch).

Of course , no builder plates, no original number (if it ever had one as SEK) . What i'm sure about is that it was left in Greece during W.W. II but i can't guess anything more.

these steps look original and more suitable for a passenger wagon than a freight one...
and the door looks like it was there from the beginning...

I suppose we will never know, as soon as it was a car left in WWII in Greece..... and all those were grouped together after the war.

Hi there, as I see at Nondas' list there were 20 gondolas left behind after the end of the war. I don't know how many different types were of them, I have seen only the yellow one at Amphiklia. Also the numbering of this one does not correspond at the list (?)
Someone of us with more photos should open a new topic.

About the decals, we could make them if the wagon is still at Eleonas (I've never been there) and the lettering is still readable...

At Nondas list as i remember he refers to 20 left-behind gondolas that were CONVERTED to sugar-beet gondolas, numbers .... I1 20 73 511 0 000-019 (if i remember well) (we can open some day a new topic about them). You have photographed one at Ipato.

These 20 gondolas (plus 3 more) were picked from hundreds of wooden left-behind gondolas, one of which is the one at Amfiklia which has a maintenance car number (100 7 288-3 (by heart -my memory surprises me ), ex- 6-digit number Ιπ 110....


Of course this car has been scrapped some years ago.
